Furniture & Upholstery Repair
Repairs
Not Everything Needs a Full Reupholster
Sometimes all a piece of furniture needs is a repair, not a complete overhaul. A broken spring, a torn seam, a sagging cushion, a loose joint - these are all common problems that can be fixed without stripping the whole piece back and starting again.
I've been repairing furniture for over 40 years, and I can usually tell straight away what's wrong and what it'll take to fix it. I'll give you an honest assessment: if a repair will sort it, that's what I'll recommend. If the piece genuinely needs more work, I'll tell you that too. No pressure, no upselling.
Common Repairs
What I Can Fix
Most furniture repair jobs fall into a handful of categories. Springs go, cushions flatten, fabric tears, frames work loose. These are all fixable, and often quicker and cheaper than you'd expect.
- Broken or sagging springs - replacement and re-tying
- Torn, worn or damaged fabric
- Flat or misshapen cushions - foam and fibre refilling
- Loose or broken frame joints
- Worn or missing castors
- Ripped seams and piping
- Damaged or peeling leather
- Sagging seats and backs
- Damaged webbing underneath seats
The Sustainable Choice
Repair, Don't Replace
Over 22 million pieces of furniture are sent to landfill in the UK every year. A straightforward repair can extend the life of a good piece by many years, and it costs a fraction of buying new. If the frame is solid and the piece suits your home, a repair is almost always the smarter choice.
Bring the piece to the workshop on Edith Street or, for larger items, I can arrange collection and delivery across Ramsbottom, Bury, Bolton, Rochdale, Rossendale and the wider Greater Manchester area.
Common Questions
Furniture Repair FAQs
How much does furniture repair cost?
Repair costs vary depending on the problem. A simple spring fix or cushion refill is much less than a full reupholster. I'll take a look at the piece and give you an honest quote with no obligation. There's no call-out charge for bringing a piece to the workshop.
Is it worth repairing or should I replace?
If the frame is solid, a repair is almost always worth it. Older furniture was built to a higher standard than most modern alternatives. A repair can extend the life of a good piece by many years at a fraction of the replacement cost.
What furniture repairs do you do?
I handle all types of upholstery repair including broken or sagging springs, torn or worn fabric, cushion refilling, frame damage, loose joints, worn castors, damaged leather, and ripped seams. If it's an upholstered piece, I can usually fix it.
How long does a repair take?
Simple repairs can sometimes be turned around in a week. More involved jobs might take two to three weeks. I'll give you a realistic timeline when I see the piece.
